Hands-on Help

Physical Therapy

Foundations strives to give you enough education and information during your consultation session to empower you to help you manage your body independently. But some of our clients would like more hands-on help on a regular basis.

In these cases, Foundations offers weekly in-home physical therapy services, provided to you by the same licensed physical therapist who performed your consultation.

Foundations physical therapy is a little different than your run-of-the-mill physical therapy with resistance bands. We combine an expertise in manual treatment and movement training to improve your body’s ability to move more efficiently. We also strive to treat the body as a whole system.

Physical therapy sessions work a little differently than consultations and involve more traditional, hands-on treatment. These may include:

  • A thorough initial evaluation with an in-depth analysis of your particular dysfunctions and difficulties. Our goal is to shed light on what needs to be improved and what is working well as-is, so your course of therapy is as efficient as possible.

  • An explanation of the mechanisms of these dysfunctions with review of body structures involved. We are happy to be as in-depth as you desire. Foundations is committed to creating informed patients who understand their body.

  • A plan for improving your health, function, and efficiency. This could include the following:

    • The development of a home exercise program incorporating:

      • Strengthening to create a more robust, powerful  musculoskeletal system.

      • Stretching and self-mobilization to get and keep your body moving.

  • Neuromuscular reeducation: teaching your body, muscles how to contract and move in specific ways to reduce pain and enhance function.

  • Manual treatment: soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization

In-home PT requires a script/referral from your physician. This can be provided by your gynecologist or by your primary care physician. Although Foundations only provides physical therapy on a cash-pay basis and will not bill your insurance, the state of Virginia requires that all patients receiving physical therapy services have a referral from a physician within 30 days of beginning to receive treatment..
